Statue of Liverty

What a sight! The colors are gorgeous turquoise copper and (somewhat new) real gold plated torch. 305 feet tall on top of star shaped Fort Hood. It took 16 years to build. Opened to the public in 1876.

Ferry to Liberty Island, NYC

Ellis Island still closed because of Hurricane Sandy. But we did know to visit the Statue after July 4 as it just reopened.

Temporary docks suffice and the general facilities are really not ready for the summer crowds here. It was so hot, no AC, little shade, BEAUTIFUL Statue, but we dubbed Liberty Island "trashyard island." Really it was upsetting to see this National Park Site overrun with trash, litter, dirty restrooms with no soap.

Our tour guide quickly pointed out Lincoln Tunnel, world Wide Plaza, Seinfield's Soup Nazi, Columbus Center, turner Warner Center, Trump Tower, Lincoln Center, Julliard School, American Museum of Natural History, Harlem, Guggenheim, Metropolitan Museum. So much to see, we were on the go!
